CLEVELAND, Ohio — John Cena’s surprise WWE comeback continues Friday at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse when he appears on “SmackDown.”
The 16-time champion turned Hollywood star stunned wrestling fans Sunday when he crashed the “Money in the Bank” pay-per-view and announced his return to the ring. He turned up again Monday night on “Raw” to challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship belt at “Summerslam” in Las Vegas on August 21.
“Roman Reigns is a ——,” Cena told the crowd. “This pathetic Roman Reigns experience has gone on long enough. Roman Reigns is an arrogant, self-absorbed, overhyped, overprotected, overexposed gimmick.”
Cena then said he would be on “Smackdown,” which airs live from Cleveland on Friday at 8 p.m. on Fox, to confront his rival face-to-face.
“I can’t wait to see you there,” Cena said.
Reigns is scheduled to team up with the Usos in Cleveland and compete in a six-man tag team match against Rey Mysterio, Dominick Mysterio and an unnamed partner. Want to guess who that might be?
Cena has shown up only occasionally on WWE broadcasts over the past few years while he pursues acting. He last wrestled — and lost — at Wrestlemania 36 in 2020. Cena currently stars in “F9: The Fast Saga.” This latest return coincides neatly with the release of his next movie, “The Suicide Squad,” which hits theaters and HBO Max on Aug. 6.
Tickets for “Smackdown” at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse are still available starting at $20 at
